What I need help with
My background as an entrepreneur
My current challenges
Financial projection, Legal services, and insurance. Awaiting determination letter from IRS for 501(c)(3) status, therefore unable to apply for grants and all fiscal support must be from fundraising, donations, and/or microloan lending.
Actions I’ve taken so far
Currently working with SCORE and SBDC mentors, finalized business plan with Live Plan programming, market research, location research, completed 1023 application and awaiting determination letter, found a location and currently negotiating lease terms, obtaining insurance quotes for non-profit liability
My future goals
I would like to have my business funded and operational by November 2022. I have a location and a lease available, yet waiting to sign until financial projection and nonprofit clarification has occurred.
My motivations to work with a mentor
I have the motivation and confidence for my business and the purpose of Back to Play. I have local networks and resources for long term success and growth. What I lack is the business education and financial perspective to have a solid plan and preparedness for the first year.
About my venture
Back to Play Started 2022
Welcome Back to Play! We are a safe, fun, sensory-oriented play space for children aged 6 months through school-aged. Our business will create a location where children can explore and learn through the magic of play with their peers and loved ones. Our goals not only include encouraging independent play, but also exploration in designated spaces incorporating various sensorimotor, linguistic, creative expression, and social building activities. To achieve each of these objectives, the play space will be complemented with additional services including but not limited to collaborative reading time, music exploration, sensory play experiments, and physical activities. In the future, we hope to incorporate private events and/or spaces for homeschool “hubs”, foster care youth, and parent/child dedicated dates. We will also create programs/resources that can serve the community of Jefferson County in various features, such as parent education courses, first aid, CPR, and BLS education classes, as well as office sublease to behavioral health and youth clinicians. We hope to be an asset to our county for families as both a fun resource and support.
