What I need help with

My background as an entrepreneur

My current challenges

  1. Funding This is the major challenge that we are facing as a company. We have big dreams to transform the logistics industry in Uganda and East Africa as a whole by digitizing operations but are held back by insufficient funds required for the big lip and make a substantial impact. Since logistics in Uganda is a cash business especially for things like fuel and usables, we are sometimes limited by the inability to have cash to pay subcontractors in the event we get a big contract.
  2. HR We do have young, brilliant and creative employees, however some experience and expertise is needed in a company that requires to scale fast and aggressively.
  3. Advertising. We have basic advertising on social media [facebook, instagram, tweeter and instagram] as we don't have a budget yet for expansive and aggressive indoor and outdoor advertising to create awareness of our services in the communities we operate in.
  4. Software. All our current operations are manual and we are in the final process of digitizing all processes. During our manual time we are struggling to keep data and have automated costings and business follow-up say by CRM software .
  5. Warehousing To have a streamlined and complete supply chain, there is need for temperature controlled and dry warehousing facilities. We are currently leasing on case to case basis.
  6. Trucks We are forced to hire trucks to do our business of transportation within the country or cross border to the only port of Mombasa. Truck owners charge highly since we don't have an alternative;hiring of trucks reduces our margin.

Actions I’ve taken so far

  1. Funding We are currently sourcing for VCs to bridge our funding challenges.
  2. HR We are making do with the human resources we have and trying to organically improve their capabilities on the job.
  3. Advertising We are concentrating only on social media advertising as its free even though with limited coverage.
  4. Software We use manual means like excel sheets and e-mail to follow-up or update our clients as there isn't an AI system to do this job.
  5. Warehousing We haven't found a solution yet, the company is still hiring from asset owners.
  6. Trucks We are in advanced talks with a truck dealer - Renault in Kampala to lease to us 50 trucks by the end of 2022 to trasnport oil and gas cargo plus our usual business within the country.

My future goals

We aspire to be an independent, self reliant logistics industry that can give our clients 360 degrees of service.

My motivations to work with a mentor

To better understand investor ready structures in our company and improve our already functional systems to avoid loses and improve productivity.

About my venture

DRAZO is an integrated logistics solutions provider transporting agricultural produce by air, sea, land and we also provide auxiliary services like customs clearance and warehousing. We are building a unique digital platform that will solve the inefficiencies & bottlenecks in Uganda's agro logistics supply chain. This will help farmers connect directly with truck owners to move their produce and buyers directly negotiate prices with farmers on a platform seamlessly. We have an active prototype [] and we shall be outing our app by end of october 2022

Countries of operation: Uganda
