I found that writing a business plan using a power point template helped me sort through the things that had to be done. Once this is done you can revisit it monthly to determine where you need to focus next.
One you have the plan, start with a list of all of the things you think you need to do. This gets the chatter out of your brain so you can decide what is important.
Once you have this list make a column and rank the items with respect to the impact on your business. I am willing to bet getting customers is #1. But, if you are like most entrepreneurs you are overwhelmed by the many ways available to find clients. What your really want to know is what is the most efficient way to get new customers.
Before you do all of this please do yourself a favor and take the personality type assessment at www.humanmetrics.com. If you are an "N" intuitive you have an additional problem because you see everything and can overwhelm yourself with too much information and will have a problem focusing on anything for a long period of time.
I am an intuitive "N" and the only way I am able to stay focused is to make a list and keep prioritizing it as I learn new things.
So to answer the question: "Where do I start?" You must know where your customers are and what their problems are. I recommend you get on YouTube, Facebook and Google and watch their tutorials on marketing. No business can survive without marketing.
Step #1 Know your customer very well - what are their problems, what are your solutions.
Step #2 Know where your customer hangs out. Is it instagram, facebook, church, malls etc.
Step #3 Choose a marketing venue and stick with it for several months. I do not recommend email marketing because it takes too long to build up your clientele.
Step #4 Network, network, network. If your business involves people you need to get out and offer solutions to peoples problems by speaking with them. You do not need to sell anything. Be the person that is there to help provide solutions to their problems.
Step $5 KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER - Right back to number 1.
Summary:
1. Know who you are first. www.humanmetrics.com
2. Know your customer and their problems
3. Spend less time online and more time networking in person if your product is a service or involves working with people.
4. Learn everything you can about marketing. I found www.lurn.com to be a good source for entrepreneurs and how to market online if online marketing is your strategy.
